What a fox face Pomeranian looks like

"Fox face" is a description of head type, not a separate breed. Compared with the round teddy bear style, a fox face Pom has:

  • A wedge-shaped head that narrows toward the nose
  • A longer, finer muzzle
  • Upright, pointed ears that are a little more visible above the coat
  • Almond-shaped eyes with a bright, keen expression
  • Often a slightly leggier, more athletic outline

This look is closer to the Pomeranian's spitz ancestors, and many people feel it best captures the breed's lively, foxy character. Orange, orange sable and red coats make the resemblance especially striking.

Personality often matches the look. Fox-type Poms are frequently described as busy, curious and quick on their feet, happy to explore a backyard, learn tricks or keep watch at the window. Plenty of short daily play and some puzzle toys help keep that bright mind occupied.

Fox face versus teddy bear

Neither style is better. They are preferences. Many Pomeranians fall somewhere in between, and breeders in different regions lean in different directions. Breeders in South Korea are known for the round, compact style, while you are more likely to see moderate and fox-type heads in some North American lines. Our guide to Korean and American Pomeranians explains the differences.

Practical advantages of a longer muzzle

A moderate muzzle tends to leave more room for teeth, which can mean less crowding, and many owners find fox-type Poms comfortable in warm weather and during active play. That does not make them exempt from normal Pomeranian care. Dental hygiene, a harness instead of a collar, and attention to the knees still apply to every Pom.

Coat and grooming

Fox face Pomeranians have the same double coat as any Pom and need brushing two or three times a week. Many owners like a natural, lightly tidied outline that keeps the ears visible and shows off the expression. As with all Poms, avoid shaving the coat short.

What to look for on the video call

  1. Ask to see the head in profile so you can judge muzzle length.
  2. Look at the ear set. Some puppies' ears are still floppy and stand up as they grow, so ask about the parents' ears.
  3. Ask what the parents look like and weigh as adults.
  4. Watch the puppy move. Fox-type Poms are often busy and quick.
  5. Review the vaccination record, vet check and microchip.

Frequently asked questions

Is a fox face Pomeranian a separate breed?

No. Fox face describes a head type with a longer muzzle and wedge-shaped head. It is the same breed as the teddy bear style.

Are fox face Pomeranians healthier than teddy bear Pomeranians?

A moderate muzzle can leave more room for teeth and easier breathing, but health depends on the individual dog and its parents, not head shape alone.

Which colors suit the fox face look?

Orange, orange sable and red coats emphasize the fox resemblance, but fox face Pomeranians come in every color.
