Teddy Bear Pomeranian Puppies for Sale

A teddy bear Pomeranian has a round head, a short muzzle, small rounded ears and a plush, stand-off coat that makes the whole dog look like a stuffed toy. It is a look, not a separate breed, and it is especially associated with Korean breeding.

What defines the teddy bear look

"Teddy bear" describes a style of Pomeranian rather than a breed or registry category. The features people look for are:

  • A round, broad skull with full cheeks
  • A short muzzle, shorter than the classic fox-face type
  • Small ears set well into the coat
  • Large, dark, round-looking eyes
  • A compact, cobby body and a dense, plush coat

The term is also used for a grooming style, where the coat is trimmed into a rounded shape around the face and body. A puppy with the right structure looks teddy-like even before a trim; a trim alone cannot create that head shape.

Keep in mind that young puppies often look rounder than they will as adults. Muzzles lengthen a little and legs catch up with the body during the first year, so the parents' adult heads are the best preview of your puppy's finished look.

Where the look comes from

Breeders in South Korea are especially known for this compact, round-faced style, and many teddy bear puppies come from Korean lines. You can read more on our Korean Pomeranian breeders page and in our comparison of Korean and American Pomeranians.

Health notes for short-muzzled Poms

A moderately short muzzle is part of the teddy bear appeal, but extremes are not a good thing. Very short faces can crowd the teeth and, in some dogs, affect breathing, especially in heat or during excitement. A puppy should breathe quietly at rest and should not snort or struggle after a short play session. Very small teddy bear puppies also share the considerations of tiny dogs: regular meals, safe handling and dental care.

Grooming a teddy bear Pomeranian

The plush coat is the look, so it needs consistent care. Brush down to the skin two or three times a week, with extra attention behind the ears and under the legs. Many owners have a groomer tidy the feet, ears and outline every six to eight weeks. A light scissored trim is fine; a close shave is not recommended, since Pomeranian coats can grow back slowly or unevenly. Expect the coat to look sparse during the puppy uglies, roughly four to ten months.

Frequently asked questions

Is a teddy bear Pomeranian a different breed?

No. It is a style of Pomeranian with a rounder face, shorter muzzle and plush coat. It is not a separate breed or registry category.

Do teddy bear Pomeranians need a special haircut?

Not necessarily. Good structure gives the look on its own. Many owners add a light rounded trim, but close shaving is not recommended.

Are teddy bear Pomeranians healthy?

Moderate examples generally are. Very short muzzles can crowd teeth and sometimes affect breathing, so watch how the puppy breathes on the video call.
