Sable Pomeranian Puppies for Sale
Sable Pomeranians have a warm base coat with black-tipped guard hairs, giving them depth and a slightly wild, fox-like shading. Orange sable and cream sable are the most common versions.

How sable works
Sable is a pattern from the agouti series (often written "ay"). The base of each guard hair is red-family color, from cream to deep orange, and the tip is black. Where tips are concentrated, usually along the back, the ears, the tail and sometimes a mask on the face, the coat looks darker. Because sable is dominant over most other patterns in the series, it is one of the most common looks in the breed.
Names describe the base color: orange sable has an orange base, cream sable a cream base, and red sable a deep red base. Wolf sable is a different pattern with a gray base.
Sable puppies change the most
If there is one color that keeps owners guessing, it is sable. Sable puppies are often born quite dark, sometimes nearly black, and lighten dramatically over the first months. Some keep heavy tipping into adulthood; others clear to an almost solid orange or cream. The puppy uglies can make the pattern look streaky and uneven. Sable adults are usually settled between eighteen months and two years, and many get lighter with each coat.
The best predictor is the parents. A puppy from two heavily tipped adults is more likely to stay shaded, while one from clear-coated parents often lightens a lot.
Grooming a sable coat
- Brush two or three times a week down to the skin. Sable coats hide mats well because of the shading.
- Black tips can bleach in strong sun, making the coat look lighter for a season.
- Tear staining is less visible than on cream or white, though cream sables show it more than orange sables.
- Do not shave. Shaving removes the tipped guard hairs, and it can take a long time for them to grow back.
What to ask on your video call
- Ask the breeder to part the coat along the back so you can see the base color and the tipping.
- Ask what both parents look like now as adults, and at the same age as this puppy if they have photos.
- Ask about older siblings from the same pairing and how much they cleared.
- Look at the face for a mask and ask whether it has been fading.
- Check vaccination records, vet check results and the microchip.
Why people love sables
Sable gives a Pomeranian dimension, especially around the ruff and the face, and it photographs beautifully. Since it is common, you can usually choose from several litters and focus on structure, size and personality. If you like the shaded look but want something more unusual, wolf sable and clear orange are worth comparing side by side.

Frequently asked questions
Will my sable Pomeranian puppy get lighter?
Very often, yes. Sable puppies are frequently born dark and lighten over the first eighteen months to two years. The parents' adult coats are the best guide.
What is the difference between orange sable and orange?
Orange sable has black-tipped guard hairs over an orange base. Clear orange is orange from root to tip with no dark tipping.
Is sable a common Pomeranian color?
Yes. Sable is dominant over most other agouti patterns, so it is one of the most common patterns in the breed.
